"I really have to give it up to this crowd, thank you to everyone for the incredible support," Lewis Hamilton said. This is not something we see all over the world. I gave it my all today, trying to track down those Ferraris. We must keep pushing!"

"We lost time in the pit stop, so I had to chase." With a Red Bull behind them, the finish was difficult. Being on the podium is a huge advantage for us. "I'm glad everyone survived the earlier-in-the-day crash."

"It was a great comeback, we didn't give up," Sergio Perez said. The opportunity presented itself at the end, and we took it; it was a great fight with Charles, followed by Lewis. It was a thrilling final lap..."

"I don't know what to say!" said Carlos Sainz at the post-race press conference. It's incredible! First race victory, 150 years later, with Ferrari at Silverstone! It's a special day that I'll never forget!" It was difficult; I struggled with the balance with the medium tyre. I persisted in my belief that I needed to stay in the race. "Imagine the nerves of that safety car restart in order to get it right." I thank them all; Silverstone has always been a special place for me. It's a special place for me, and I want to thank everyone who came out to support me!"

Carlos Sainz won the British Grand Prix, which saw Zhou Guanyu survive a terrifying first-lap crash and protestors invade Silverstone.

Following a safety car period, Sainz fought his way past Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in a brilliant 10-lap shootout to the chequered flag to claim his first Formula One victory. Sergio Perez finished second, and Lewis Hamilton finished third after forcing his way around Leclerc with four laps remaining.

Before the safety car restart, Sainz, Perez, and Hamilton all changed to fresh tyres, but Ferrari left Leclerc out on old rubber, dropping him from first to fourth and ending his title hopes on a day when Max Verstappen limped home in seventh after suffering a puncture and damage to his Red Bull bodywork. The race of the season began in spectacular fashion in front of a record crowd of 142,000 fans in Northamptonshire.

Rookie Zhou was approaching the 160mph opening Abbey corner when British driver George Russell tagged the Chinese driver's right rear, sending him onto his roof and sliding out of control. Zhou continued through the gravel upside down, sparks flying, until he slammed into the tyre barrier and was launched into the fencing. With Zhou's Alfa Romeo wedged between the tyre wall and the fencing, fans and photographers ducked for cover.

An extraction team rushed to Zhou, and the 23-year-old was carefully removed and transported in an ambulance to the medical center before being discharged. Russell was also seen racing to check on his friend, Williams driver Alex Albon, who was involved in the crash, and then Zhou's condition. "I'm relieved to see Zhou is okay. "It was a heinous crime," Russell told Sky Sports. "I jumped out of the car to see if Zhou was OK," said the Mercedes driver, who was not allowed to restart the race. When I returned to my car, I was unable to start it. You cannot restart the race once you have received outside assistance."

Carlos Sainz praises'special' Silverstone after winning the first-ever Formula One Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz expressed his delight and gratitude after winning the British Grand Prix on Sunday, his first victory on the Formula One circuit in his 150th race start.

The Ferrari driver was on pole at Silverstone, but his lead lasted only seconds as Max Verstappen passed him entering turn one - but a massive crash behind them meant a restart from the original positions.

Even so, an exhilarating race provided so many twists and turns that both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton led at various points before a Safety Car appeared in the closing stages, which proved pivotal.

Sainz, Hamilton, and Red Bull's Sergio Perez all pitted immediately to switch to soft tyres, while Leclerc remained on hard compounds, resulting in a thrilling finish with Perez taking second and Hamilton third.

In a celebratory post-race speech, Sainz acknowledged the "special" role Silverstone had played in his career to date.

'Halo saved me,' says Zhou Guanyu after surviving the 'horrific' Silverstone crash.

Zhou Guanyu admits that the halo "saved him" after a "horrific" crash on the first lap of the British Grand Prix.

In front of thousands of stunned fans, the Alfa Romeo driver's car flipped upside down and smashed into the catch fencing.

George Russell made contact with the rear of Zhou's car, causing him to launch onto his roof and slide out of control as the F1 rookie approached 160mph at the Abbey corner.

Following medical treatment, Alfa Romeo confirmed Zhou was "conscious" and "talkative" after continuing through the gravel and coming to a thudding halt at the tyre barrier.

And the Chinese driver posted on social media, "I'm fine, all clear." Today, Halo came to my rescue. Thank you for your encouraging messages!"
